PokéDex Information: The Avari Berry is a rare berry from the Ama Rainforest that grows in tight clusters. It is said that these blue marble-like berries possess healing capacities, as well as a delightfully sweet taste that can be enjoyed by Pokémon and people alike!
Berry or Item name: Avari Berry
Pronunciation: Ah-var-ee
Moon Forest regional berry or item #: 2
Special name: Plentitude Berry
Classification: Healing Berry
Picture:>.> None. I can't do sprites, if someone could perhaps make one, that would be nice? ^^;
Height: 1 inch
Weight: 2 grams – about 0.0044 pounds
Physical Appearance:
At first glance, the Avari Berry can be confused for a marble: it is perfectly spherical, light blue in shade, and has a glossy, reflective texture. The berries are all surprisingly uniform, each one having a width of almost exactly one inch, and each weighing about 2 grams (slightly heavier than the average grape). Its appearance is deceiving in that it is not hard at all, and only a slight amount of pressure is needed to burst the berry. Avari Berries are never found individually; they are in tightly clustered bunches that can range from five to an incredible five-hundred berries! Thus, a given bunch of berries can weigh from about .022 pounds to 1.1 pounds.
Berry or Item Effects:
The effect of an individual Avari Berry is scarcely noticeable: each berry heals one point of a Pokémon’s health. Thus a clump of berries can heal from 5-500 HP, depending on the size. It must be noted that all the berries on a bunch must be used within a very short period of time, for once some have been picked the rest will shrivel quickly. The berries also make a Pokémon happier, due to their sweet taste.
History/Background:
The Avari Berry is native to the Moon Forest region, and specifically to Ama Rainforest. The berries require large amounts of moisture to grow, and thus they are only found in that environment. The berries grow very quickly, and each plant can produce a large number of berries; however, it is also very common for a planted berry to die before growing into a plant. Thus, planting one berry is not a good way to grow these, many must be planted to get a good yield. This helps keep the population in check; nonetheless, these berries are extremely common in Ama.
The Avari Berry was named by the first explorer to enter Ama Rainforest. He was fascinated by the nature of the berries, and intrigued by the individually weak nature of the berries. Due to the fact that they must be harvested in bulk to yield any great effect, he named them after the word avarice, meaning greed: for if one sets their mind to harvesting these, they shall surely be taking many!
The berries are mostly unknown throughout Moon Forest, as too few people pass through Ama to spread them across the region, despite their plentitude within the rainforest. Any attempts to plant the berries outside of Ama have mostly been failures; while some plants were able to grow, the yield was small.
